Portrait Session Prices

At Chris Niemann Photography we always look forward to doing portrait sessions for people.  Our portrait sessions can take many forms, such as senior portraits, family pictures on the beach, and baby pictures just to name a few.  This wide spread of reasons and subjects is just one of the many reasons we enjoy doing portraits so much.  In spite of mine and everybody else’s tendency to think we can do everything, there are certain things we need to leave to a professional.  Creating a great portrait is one of these things.  There are several problems with trying to do your own photography.  First there is the setting of the timer so Dad can run back into shot, and I’m sure all of us have some fond (or maybe unwanted) memories of the disasters that can come from this technique.  Secondly there are the costs involved with getting the best equipment, which the average family can’t afford or justify. Thirdly the family portrait is not just an everyday photo; it’s the one you want to have up on the wall in the most visible part of your house for everyone to see, so you want it to look the best it can.  We all know what Photoshop is, and I cannot count the times I have been asked “Can you Photoshop me so I look good?”  The truth is that making you look good starts before the picture is ever taken, by using knowledge and tools the professional photographer has acquired.

When you are picking your photographer it is important to consider a few things.  How long have they been in business as a photographer?  We started the business almost four years ago, but was photographing for a couple years before that.  What type of settings do they photograph in?   While we have done some studio work, and have that option available, we primarily photograph on location either by traveling to you or by meeting you somewhere.  How much do they charge?  While price is not everything it is a factor in choosing a photographer.  We charge two hundred dollars for our portrait sessions, which includes a hundred dollars for prints.  What do they offer after the session?  In addition to prints we offer many things like, canvas gallery wraps, albums, cards, and the CD of images.  Most clients spend an additional three to five hundred dollars after the session.  How long does the session last?  Sessions last about an hour on average, but may run longer.
